MONTROSE CYCLES FOR CHARITY
Montrose is becoming a Mecca for cycling and the summer of 2009 will be no exception. Four different rides will raise money to fund four great charities. These will be open to all age groups, cycling skills and interests. They will include distances from 12 to over 100 miles and from fairly flat terrain to extreme hill climbs. Rides for both road bikes and mountain bikes will present plenty of diversity.
Starting the season is the Mission to Ride on Sunday, May 17th, 2009. The charity ride begins and ends at Rotary Park and includes Road Bike races of 30, 40, 60 and 100 mile plus two Mountain Bike routes, easy and harder. The Mountain Bike rides are sponsored by COPMOBA, Colorado Plateau Mountain Biking Association. The 30 mile ride goes to Olathe and back. The 40 goes to High Point of the Black Canyon and back. The 60 mile ride does a loop to Delta, back through Pea Green returning to Montrose. It is also the 2nd leg of the 100 mile trip. Registration fees go to support patient care, primarily prescriptions for patients, at the Montrose Medical Mission. For registration forms and additional information contact Cascade Bicycles at 21 N. Cascade Avenue, Montrose or the office of Dr. Louis Winkler at 970-249-0358. You can also go on line at: missiontoride.com or active.com.
The Grin and Barrett Charity Ride will be held on Saturday, July 18th, 2009. This ride benefits the San Juan Health Care Foundation and will begin and end at Best Western Red Arrow. Bikers will meet at 6:00 a.m. to begin loading bikes and boarding buses to the starting point. They will be transported to Blue Mesa Dam where the 112 mile ride begins. Bikers will wind their way through Crawford, Hotchkiss, Delta and back to Montrose. Bikers may choose 33/50 mile rides looping around the Montrose, Olatha areas for shorter distances. All proceeds, after expenses, will go toward the Caring Friends Foundation for patient wellness at Montrose Memorial Hospital administered by the San Juan Health Care Foundation.
